Some Like It Hot, Part 1
Happy Friday! We've now watched approx. 45-60 minutes' worth of Billy Wilder's 1959 classic Some Like It Hot. For your weekend homework, please use the 'Comment' function on this post to answer the following questions: In your opinion, which of the quotes we discussed in class today was the funniest? Why? In your opinion, which scene (or scenes) of the movie has been (or have been) the funniest so far? Why? What have you learned about American culture from watching the first part of the movie? "He's stomach is empty,and it go to his head" because it looks funny, it means his mind is out of control.
ReplyDeleteI think the scene that they have a secret party on the train is the most funniest, because alcohol is banned at that time but they still have it and those girls dont know he is a guy.
I've learn that alcohol is banned from 1920 to 1933.
i like when jerry and joe went to someone office. they want to find some job. and side "He's stomach is empty,and it go to his head" that funny. because this had other mean. when he say this is funny. i think when they dressed like woman. but no one can find they are women. they also manufacture a number of interesting things. in this movie i know it happened in like 1920s, in 1920 to 1933 they can get alcohol in bar. activities between the Mafia, they make more money selling alchol. that is not save.
ReplyDeletei like that "story of my life. i always get the fuzzy end of the lollipop." i think it is a idiom. it is meaning is somebody's life is not smooth and she meets a lot of problems. her life is rough. she cannot meet the right person. finally, her life is like the end of the lollipop which is tough and unhappy.i like the part of junior and jerry pretend to girls, who are Josephine and Daphne, to join the band. it is funny and meaningful.they make lots of jokes. and they are exactly as the same as girls. they wear skirts and make up. they study the voices and bodies of girls. the amazing thing is there is a old man like one of them. the culture of the first is alcohol. american like drinking, even it is illegal, they still drink secretly.it is the most commend thing in United State.
ReplyDeletei like the part that they have a party in the train, he said that wil be a suprise party. I think it is funny, because Sugar doesn't know what does he mean. And the real meaning is funny. I think the part when they sleeping together, he feels shy and the whole body was going wrong, then Sugar thinks he got sick so tries to make him feel better. His face was really funny. In this movie, I learned a lot of American culture. First, the Marilyn Monroe. She is a part of American culture, I found how cute and sexy and hot was her. Secondly,the language of them. Some of the quotes are interesting and American styles, but I was hard to understand. Lastly, the American girl, they almost are open, and amost all of them are the raconteurs, they loves parties and beach. Those things are really in commend in American girls
ReplyDeleteMy favour sectence is "His stomach is empty, and it goes o his head". Because it using a very funny way to describe him. Sometimes, we should to know some words like this in stead some obviouslyand directely telling people's bad things in order to tell people's bad stuffs and make to accept it easier and its not going to make them easier to be angry. In my opinion, the most funnest plot is the guy stop pretending girl and starts pretending a rich guy who has a expensive yacht in order to catch Surger's attention. And the peak is when another guy who is pretending girl and comes with him together see him, their conversation is very funny. Because both of them have secrets, and they don't want Surger knows, so they have some interpersonal words durning their conversation. outsider can't imply but they know and we know. I know there is a prohibition about achohol. That's incredible.
ReplyDeletei like "He's stomach is empty,and it go to his head." it is straightforward and funny. it is the real phenomenon of body. when people are hungry, they cannot think anymore. this idiom is easy to understand and after i read it, i have a big smile, because it is exactly right. in my opinion, jerry and Joe wear the girl's clothes and high heels and they walk around are very funny. also, jerry goes to swim and play balls make me laugh a lot. i am thinking how they can make it. it is hard for men to pretend to girls, their voices, physical appearance, and so on are so difficult to cover. even it is possible, the men are not comfortable. the american culture in the movie, i think is american like party. they like to dance and drink. they cannot live without alcohol. they cannot stop drinking, it seems they will go to be dead. they are crazy about drinking and party.
